Micro Residency | The Sound of Hasselt & Genk by Atelier De Stad, Musica, Z33 & C-Mine, Hasselt & Genk – BE (2014)

Driving a car, as a common everyday use of public space, became the starting point for a sonic exploration of the Hasselt-Genk Canal area. To explore the sonic experience of driving a car through this transformative old industrial landscape, with the Ford plant closure as its landmark, spatial sound effects common in urban electronic music were introduced. A sound map was created to represent the sonic experiences of the driver inside the car, and the possible experiences of the audience outside the car. Participants were invited to interact with, respond to, and understand their sound experience as an imprint on the landscape.
