ATELIER #2: LUW_SCORE

CHALLENGE

Before a site can be planned or designed, it needs to be heard. How a site sounds today co-defines whether people feel comfortable, stay longer, or move away, and whether its more-than-human inhabitants can live and thrive. This sonic baseline functions as a planning and design reference: it makes the site’s current sonic qualities comparable with its projected ones, so that planning and design decisions can be argued, discussed, and materialised.

APPROACH

A LUW_SCORE atelier combines Sonic UX profiling with Sonic Habitat mapping, using the LUW SCOREBOARD. It is the baseline instrument of LUW’s method: it documents how a site sounds today, as the foundation for evaluating how it could sound tomorrow.

OUTCOME

A Sonic UX Profile and a DEAR Sonic Habitat evaluation of your site: how the sonic environment relates to comfort, use, the built environment, and social and ecological atmosphere, documented and made discussable for design, planning, and community conversations.

APPLICATIONS

Urban redevelopment: documenting the sonic qualities of a site before planning and redesign.

Urban space planning and design: informing spatial briefs and design choices with the sonic character of a site.

Community engagement: giving residents and stakeholders a shared vocabulary to discuss how a site sounds and what they want it to sound like.

DELIVERABLES

A Sonic UX Profile, a DEAR Sonic Habitat evaluation, thematic maps, sonic spatial motifs, and strategic insights. Duration: 1 to 3 weeks, tailored to your project’s scope. Pricing available on request.

MODULAR WORKFLOW

The LUW_SCORE atelier can be combined with LUW’s SOUND_WALK (for engagement and discovery) and the PLAN_AS_SCORE atelier (for scenario development and evaluation), creating an integrated sonic urbanism approach. Modules can be combined according to the needs and stage of the project.
