AUDIO ESSAY
Sonic Drift CDA is an audio essay that traces an AI-powered dérive as it traverses the sonic environment of Brussels Territory North. Developed as an artist-led process that included urban planning research, data analysis and sound studies, the tracks articulate sonic space shifts in the sonic environment of a mixed-use urban block situated along the Chaussée d’Anvers (CDA). Sonic textures, infrastructural rhythms, and spatial resonances unfold across these recordings, offering a reflective study on the sonic-vibrational contours of an urban landscape in continuous transformation.

PROTOTYPE BUILDING
As part of my ReSilence S+T+ARTS residency (2024), I collaborated with CERTH researchers to develop a prototype toolkit for analyzing sonic space shifts in relation to urban form and compact city strategies. The toolkit integrates urban planning research, AI-driven analysis, and GIS-based urban analysis to generate indicators that quantify interactions between sonic figurations, perceptual responses, and the built environment. The methodology combines passive and active field recording approaches to register temporal and spatial variations in sonic spaces. Passive rooftop recordings document the perceptual acoustic horizon of Brussels North from a central observation point, employing low-cost acoustic loggers and single-board computers to ensure GDPR compliance. Active sound walks, conducted at street level, trace sonic transitions in public spaces, positioning the listener within the dynamic landscape and environment surrounding the CDA urban block. AI-driven sonic cartography extends this analysis into affective and material dimensions, integrating infrasound detection and emotional sonification to reveal latent spatial tensions. This collaboration underscores an interdisciplinary approach that integrates data-driven spatial analysis with sonic artistic research, offering novel frameworks for understanding urban sound environments and developing city planning and design strategies.

MIXED MEDIA INSTALLATION
A vinyl-based sound installation serves as an instrument of the audio essay, performing the observations, data analysis, and interpretations of sonic shifts from street and rooftop levels within Brussels CDA. Designed for headphone listening, it invites the audience to engage with the composition, offering a dynamic cartography of CDA’s sonic space shifts. This installation will be featured in the ReSilence Exhibition in Milan, October 2025.
